Mutual Cadre & ELLs: Lesson Plans

The following units for grades i, 4, and 8 are aligned to the Common Core State Standards and target English language language learners' (ELLs) literacy and language needs. They were adult past groups of teachers from Albuquerque, New Mexico and Poughkeepsie, New York working in collaboration with Dr. Diane August.

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Class one: Burro's Tortillas

This unit is based upon the picture book Burro'southward Tortillas by Terri Fields, a Southwestern adaptation of The Little Red Hen chosen past the teachers for its relevance to their students' cultural experiences.

Form 4: Cinderella

This unit of measurement is based on a picture-book version of Cinderella, written and illustrated past Barbara McClintock.  This detail version of Cinderella was called by the teachers for its rich language and imagery.

Grade 8: "The Story of an Hour"

This unit of measurement is based on "The Story of an Hour," a short story written by Kate Chopin in 1894, called for its themes, historical context, and illustrations of irony.
